I don't really like Red Lobster, they served me crab/p

At least so goes an old crack about the US sea food restaurant, Red Lobster. Though I wasn't served crab while spending the weekend on Bowen Island, I was fortunate to find a number of great photographic opportunities. The first was a number of small dungeness crab waiting out the low tide underneath rocks on the beach. The crabs were found thanks to a tip from the locals lounging at the small harbor. Thanks guys!

Feisty little fellas. Other than the crabs, the spring was just starting to unfold on this late March weekend and the flowers were blooming.

Named "Bowen" in 1860 the island is a great, quick getaway if you ever are in Vancouver. With the laid-back island atmosphere, scenery and culinary treats it not unlike Tofino on Vancouver Island. Are you a fan of Bowen or other of the islands off the coast of Vancouver? Feel free to share your favorite island getaway in a comment below.

For the technically interested: Nikon D300 with the Nikkor 105mm f2.8 VR set to f5.6 and above for increased depth of field for the macro shots. On almost all the close-up shots I used the Nikon SB900 with a ringflash adapter attached for a more even and softer lighting. The last panorama is taken with the Nikkor 50mm f1.4 set to f11 and stitched from eight individual photos in Photoshop Elements.
